  BLURB:

When being different leads to the best years of your life

Powerful witch Silver Spell Solange always dreamed of getting into S.S.S. School. When she finally achieved it, she couldn't have been happier. Making it through the first year at the prestigious school was more challenging than she could have ever expected, but it also introduced her to four unique shifter boyfriends — not to mention Star, her adorable uni-kitten familiar.

The gang is hoping for a peaceful break between semesters in order to relax and explore their relationship. But summer is breezing by, and after a shocking discovery, Silver and her men must take things into their own hands to learn more about the magical ring on her finger and the powers it truly possesses.

Year One may have been hard, but it had nothing on the challenges that Year Two brings. Some students will rise, others will fall, and through it all, Silver must make sure she can keep her men together no matter what crazy obstacles and tests they're about to endure.

Silver might be prepared for what S.S.S. School has in store. But something else — something even darker and more dangerous — is happening in the shadows of the school, and it has a certain ex-boyfriend’s name written all over it.

Can Silver manage to juggle everything that this second year will throw at her? Or will she fail before the final exam?

  Summer Chilling

"Silver? I'm going to make seven margaritas!"

  "Why?" I mumbled sleepily.

"Stop asking questions and stop snoozing your summer away. Your second year at S.S.S. is approaching," Scarlett declared.

My eyes remained closed, but I answered, "I can drink seven margaritas and still be ready to rumble."

Scarlett laughed. "Not with that snoozing attitude, and you'd be far too drunk. I'll be back," she called out.

The warm breeze caressed my skin as the sound of the lake’s gentle waves lulled me.

We were at our private family cottage, and it was hard to not doze off in the glorious warmth of summer. It wasn't super hot like it had been the last couple of days, and the slight shade from the umbrella positioned behind my beach chair made it so I didn't receive enough exposure to get a sunburn.

To think half of my summer had gone by in a flash. I still remembered packing my things in our dorm house at Supernatural Spy School, saying goodbye to my four boyfriends.

Dimitri, Yuriel, Ryuunosuke, and Wolfgang. My four amazing shifter boyfriends and teammates. We'd kept in touch every single day, through texts, calls, Facetime, and group chats.

To say I missed them was an understatement. When the semester had ended and we’d kicked off summer vacation with our families, Year Two seemed so distant.

But now, it was only a few short weeks away. I was pumped to get back into the swing of things, but I was also nervous about what was to come.

Year One at the prestigious spy school definitely had a few close calls, especially during the final exam.

I was still trying to recover from it all, plagued by nightmares of me losing the guys. Scarlett had expressed that having nightmares or any type of post-traumatic stress was normal.

The few times during our vacation when my dreams were enough to wake her up, she'd held me as I cried and calmed me down. I couldn't be more thankful to be spending my summer with my family at our cottage. They helped me remember I didn’t have to deal with all of this on my own. My nightmares only grazed the light surface of my multiple worries. I hadn’t even really begun to process other important concerns, like my shifter status.

I'd gone from being an angel to carrying traits of a hellhound.

Yes. Hellhound. The superior powerful being that could summon flames from the depths of hell and had split personalities.

I wondered if I'd experience that, but Dimitri had explained the split thing happened at birth, which made more sense.

But summoning flames! Fire from the very depths of hell. You had to admit, it was just a tad cool.

We didn't have much information about what I was becoming. There were so many unanswered questions with this ring, and we’d agreed to make researching it a priority before Year Two started.

We still had access to the school main services, which included the library, and both Ryuu and I still had our copies of the key we'd won from our trial. We were definitely going to take advantage this time around because my gut told me we would have far more important things to focus on the moment classes began.

Spending time at our cottage was the break I really needed. After the fiasco during our exam, I felt like the change in scenery and calm environment were helping me recover both physically and mentally.

Yuriel had encouraged me to meditate, something angel shifters did to keep their emotions balanced. Now that we knew my angel shifter trait was unlocked, I'd have to be trained by Yuriel once we returned to school.

His older brother, Professor Xin — or Daichi, during summer break — offered to assist if I needed any tips, but he was currently on vacation and wasn't coming back until early next week.

I hoped to get to visit all four of my guys soon. I'd been worried about Dimitri and where he'd spend summer vacation, because he didn't really have a family to stay with. He'd gone to visit his village, but that was something that took a day or two to accomplish.

I'd invited him to the cottage, but he hadn’t wanted to interfere in my family time, especially when he'd done so during the Christmas holidays.

Yuriel offered him the chance to stay at his apartment, and Dimitri actually took it. I was super pleased by the outcome, since it would give Dimitri and Yuriel the chance to bond.

It wasn't as though they didn't get along, but I thought it would help Yuriel branch out more while helping Dimitri not feel like a loner in this big world. When you didn't have close family members anymore, it was difficult to not feel lonely.

He'd mentioned it the night before we left for vacation, and it left me feeling relieved that he'd be with Yuriel, his brother, and occasionally Yuriel’s parents, who would come by to visit throughout the summer months.

Ryuu and Wolfgang had returned to their mountain, spending the summer training and appeasing Ryuu's little sister. They told me I'd definitely have to come over for dinner before school started, and I accepted the offer. We simply had to figure out a time and date, but I was excited to go back to the mountain.

Not as a sneaky student trying to complete her mission, but as an actual guest.

As for me, aside from staying at the cottage, I'd actually spent a good first half of the
summer rearranging the coffee shop staff. Summer was always the busiest, leaving Scarlett and me in need of extra help and tasked with ensuring everything was set so our shops wouldn't collapse when we weren't there.

I wasn't sure if Nikko had passed her final exam or not, but she clearly survived it, because she submitted her resignation. Thankfully I wasn't in that day and her mom had to accept it. But she had come back in the following week for a recommendation letter.

  Something only I could provide.

It was one of those moments where I'd have loved to be a bitch and grin widely in her face about her needing something from me, but I sadly didn't have that much savagery in me.

We may not be friends anymore, but a good person would at least wish her luck and give her what she needed to move on. I wouldn't contribute to someone's struggle in obtaining a job that would support their wellbeing.

After the very quick formal exit interview, I gave her the recommendation letter.

The slightly ripped one because Star had appeared out of nowhere and tried to shred it like the "good" uni-kitten she was.

With Star's hissing serenades floating in the air of my office, Nikko had finally left, and I knew that was the official end of our friendship. Was I sad about it? I wasn't sure.

If it had happened before I’d found out she was dating Callister, I would have felt down about it. However, my gut told me she'd been seeing Callister for a good while and had decided I wasn’t worth being told. If Callister hadn’t bragged about it, I still might not know about the two of them.

Did I worry about her? Yes, but maybe Callister wouldn't use her like he did me.

I was a human witch, unlike Nikko, who was a sexy succubus. She certainly wouldn't deny him sex.

Candice was speechless as she watched all of it unravel in the office. An added bonus was Star's hissing, which lasted until Nikko was five blocks away, and even then, she was right at the door, glaring daggers in the direction Nikko had gone.

My familiar was officially as overprotective as, if not more than, my four boyfriends.

Once we'd wrapped things up for the day, Candice had asked what had happened, but I didn't give her the deets. As much as I could reveal about Nikko and her choice in men and slack in studies, it wasn't my place to tattle on her, especially to her mother.

I explained that S.S.S. had been really hard and I was sure Nikko wanted to step up her academics. Plus, there were plenty of job opportunities at S.S.S. and she could get something there while studying.

That was all I could come up with, and Candice thanked me for being an amazing friend. Her daughter's actions weren't going to stop her or her husband from working at my coffee shop or ruin the tight-knit bond she had with my family, but it was sad to see the friendship end.

It just proved that generational friendships can't last forever.

When we'd reached our cottage, I had explained everything to Mom and Scarlett. They agreed to keep it among us, but they were very clear that they wouldn't support such a friendship after everything that had happened.

Scarlett was not pleased, and I was sure if it wasn't for her boyfriend Nicholas coming over later to take her out, she would have tracked Nikko down and beat her ass up.

I did assure them that I had made some new friends, aside from my shifter harem.

Zuri and I had been texting back and forth all summer long, and she'd even come down to this side of town with Xzavier to see my coffee shop.

Who would have thought a witch like me would befriend an adorable bunny shifter?

We'd planned to go shopping before school started back up, and overall, it felt nice to have a change in friends.

To actually have a friend who wanted to be around me for me and not out of convenience.

Zuri and Xzavier would have come down to the cottage for a weekend, but they were heading to Japan for a few weeks. Both of their families were going, which was really exciting. I could tell Xzavier was really into her, but I wondered if their families would be okay with it.

Bunny and lion shifter. Still unsure how that would turn out for the next generation. Maybe a bunny that could roar? What if they had a kid who was a lion shifter but hopped? That would be a little entertaining.

Opening my eyes, I looked through my rainbow-colored shades to the sky, the clouds passing by at a slow rate and the sun shining down perfectly. Today was just another peaceful day, and I couldn't be more grateful to experience this calmness.

Star was curled up in my lap, her quiet behavior informing me that she was still asleep. Scarlett was right. Star had been able to come out and stay longer recently, and she definitely appears whenever she wants to, along with the few occasions my nerves had spiked up.

Lifting my hand up, I stared at the ring on my finger, watching how the jewels sparkled when I tilted my hand just slightly.

This tiny piece of jewelry had somehow changed my entire life. I'd been able to attend the school my dad had envisioned for me. And I’d met four amazing men who all loved me in their own ways, helped me grow in strength, and most importantly, helped conquer some of the many demons and insecurities I harbored deep inside.

Was I a new and improved Silver Spell Solange who had no fears? Not really, but I'd definitely improved. Openly confronting my past with Callister had given me the strength to tell my mom and sister what had happened. I blurted it out during an evening conversation where we sat in front of the campfire, roasting marshmallows.

A burden was lifted that day by finally acknowledging what had happened to me and saying it to the people I loved the most; it was the deep inhale of fresh air I needed to move on.

We didn't linger on it, but we talked about it, how I felt, and what would help me overcome any triggers I might have.

I still froze up at times, but with the guys, it had gotten better. I was growing, healing, learning, and achieving far more than I would working at the coffee shop and spending another year wishing to enter S.S.S.

  All thanks to this ring.

Closing my eyes once more and leaning back into my chair, I once again thought of my boyfriends. I really missed them.

It was why I was secretly counting down the days until we'd be back, and I'd get to enjoy their rambles, bickering, laughter, and affection.

I could vividly imagine Dimitri sniffing me as usual, the sound so real, it made me sigh in longing.

"I wish Dimitri were here. My sniffing stalker," I voiced to myself.

"You smell super nice today, Silver."

My eyes shot open at the low, sexy voice. I blinked a few times and turned my head to see Dimitri's wide grin. It took fifteen seconds of me blinking, lifting my sunglasses up, and staring at his now-short hair and amber eyes to realize it truly was my hellhound boyfriend.

"D-Dimitri?! Short hair? What happened to your hair? No, that should be another question. Are you real? No. What are you do—"

He kissed me, the firmness of his soft lips taking me from shocked to completely absorbed in the situation.

  Goodness, I missed these lips.

I moaned and kissed him with urgency, and he didn't hesitate to return the favor, the two of us kissing like it was our last day on this planet.

"All right, all right. Break it up, love birds," Ryuu groaned.

"I want a welcoming kiss from Silver, too," Wolfgang announced.
